Hydraulic calculation of oil and gas upstream pipe-line accounting route profile

The journal on “Issues on gathering, treatment and transportation of oil and oil products” № 02/2013 has published an article by N.A. Malyshin and N.V.   Varlamov  (Giprotymenneftegaz, HMS Group).

Background : Production of oil deposits is represented as two-phase gas-liquid mixture. Calculation of pipes through which such a mixture is supplied to the oil treatment devices is complicated because the large number of factors that cannot always be taken into account. Aims and objectives are to consider all factors and determinate the real transportation regimes of gas-liquid mixture from the field.  Methods: reliable information about the performance of produced gas-liquid mixture is stored in a database of research institution and allows to provide the accurate calculations. Results: On the example of the calculation of upstream pipelines there was shown the mechanism of determination of the pipelines diameters under operating pressure on specific sites.  Conclusion: Accounting the structure of gas-liquid mixture and the profile of the route makes it possible to describe the real processes occurring in the pipeline, to determine the hydraulic resistance and to recommend the operating pressure needed for transportation.
